The security at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited and the New Mangalore Port — manned by Central Industrial Security Force personnel — will be strengthened, said CISF Inspector General (Southern Sector) K. Jayanth Murali here on Monday.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Murali said now there were nearly 250 CISF personnel, including the quick reaction teams, deployed for security at MRPL. There will be an addition of 100 personnel. Mr. Murali said the CISF personnel will be increased in phases to meet the requirement of MRPL, which is being expanded in three phases.
Mr. Murali said a survey has been carried out to estimate the need of additional personnel at the port. Now, there are nearly 280 personnel. A proposal has been made to increase the number by another 65 personnel taking the total strength to nearly 345 personnel. As many as 350 personnel are involved in guarding machinery at the mines in Kudremukh and providing security at the Pellet and Blast Furance plants in Mangalore, he said.
Profiling passengers
Mr. Murali said CISF personnel were being sensitised about profiling air travellers that helps in terror suspects and drug peddlers. He said personnel involved in security at airports had been shown videos and have been trained in passenger profiling.
Exclusive coach
The Railways has added an AC 3-tier coach exclusively for central armed police personnel to the Jammu Tawi-bound Navyug Express. This is one of the three trains from the southern region to have an exclusive coach for the armed police. In all, the Railways have provided this facility in seven trains.
