The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has asked Governor H.R. Bhardwaj and President Prathiba Patil to dismiss the B.S. Yeddyurappa Government, following indictment of the Chief Minister and his five Cabinet colleagues by Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde in relation to illegal mining in Karnataka.

Indictment

Speaking at a protest organised near the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday, SDPI district president Abdul Jaleel said Mr. Yeddyurappa was dillydallying over tending resignation even after knowing about the indictment a week ago. People would not excuse Mr. Yeddyurappa and the BJP for all the drama staged following the leak of the Lokayukta' s final report.

The SDPI district secretary Saleem Guruvayanakere said the BJP should be held morally responsible for illegal mining and for the alleged tapping of Mr. Hegde' s phone.

Diversion

Mr. Guruvayanakere said Mr. Yeddyurappa was trying to divert the attention of people from corruption by organising events such as the Bhagvad Gita teaching campaign in schools and colleges.

SDPI district general secretary Akbar Ali spoke.

The SDPI activists submitted a memorandum at the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
