The Kandaya Ilakha Samsyegala Parihara Samiti staged a dharna in front of the Sub Registrar’ Office in Udupi on Monday demanding simplification of rules with regard to land coversion, and sale and purchase of land in the district.
Bhujanga Shetty, president of the Kandaya Ilakha Samsyegala Parihara Samiti, said that most people in the rural areas owned small plots. But the Panchayat Development Officers were insisting on Forms 9 and 11 under Karnataka Panchayat Raj Rules (Taxes and Fees) from the people for selling and buying land. This has inconvenienced farmers.
During land coversion, the revenue authorities citing various rules, regulations and norms, were keeping 45 per cent of the land reserved, and were allowing conversion of only 55 per cent of land.
Strange situation
He said it was strange that for purchase of land or land conversion in rural areas, a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Town and Country Planning Authority was required. All the authority regarding sale, purchase and conversion should be vested only in the gram panchayats, he said.
