Sadananda: end politics of selfishness

January 29, 2012 11:21 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:07 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Saturday decried politics of selfishness.

He was speaking at the 68 birthday celebrations of Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math here.

“We have been witnessing people from a dominant community clamour for self-interest,” Mr. Gowda said. It was unfortunate that there were clashes among castes and also among languages. Love and trust was going away from society. “We need to put an end to all these,” he said.

Mr. Gowda said the words of advice from the Swamiji when he went to seek blessings soon after he took charge as the Chief Minister had been acting as a guiding force for him. “He told me that the post I am occupying now is not something that I wanted. It has come by the blessings of elders and that of god. So he asked me to work in a way that pleases God.”

And pleasing God, Mr. Gowda said would mean providing administration that was free from corruption, selfish interest and illegalities. “As an RSS man, I have been sticking to this,' Mr. Gowda said. Mr. Gowda commended the work of maths and religious institutions that were working towards uniting different sections of society and also retaining country's rich culture. “You can see this in this function. Swamiji has brought different sections of people on one stage.” Mr. Gowda said there was need for people to work together by keeping the interests of the nation foremost. “There should not be politics in religion. There is a need of (practising) values in politics,” he said.

Mr. Gowda lauded the contribution of Adichunchanagiri Math in the field of education and healthcare. The Adichunchanagiri Math and Ramachandrapura Math had developed cowsheds and supported the State government in imposing a ban on cow slaughter, he said.

Union Minister of State for Railways K.H. Muniyappa asked the Chief Minister to work for the development of all communities. “I should commend him for his good work. But as he is always smiling, he should see that there is smile among all the communities,” Mr. Muniyappa said.

Home Minister R. Ashok, Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya, Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Ramachandrapura Math's Raghavendra Thirta Swamiji and RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat participated in the function.
