Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Ports and Muzrai, said on Thursday that Rs. 8.66 crore had been allocated by the government for the development of pilgrim centres in Udupi district.
Addressing the Rajyotsava Day function organised by the district administration at Mahatma Gandhi District Stadium, here. Mr. Poojary said the amount would be released this month. He said he was happy that the amount was released through his ministry.
The third stage of the Malpe Fisheries Harbour was being constructed at a cost of Rs. 37.15 crore. Fisheries jetties were built at Hungarcutta, Kodikanyana, and Gangolli at a cost of Rs. 3 crore each. A jetty was being constructed at Kodi near Kundapur at a cost of Rs. 4 crore.
Dredging works had been taken up at the Kodibengre fisheries jetty at a cost of Rs. 1.92 crore, and at Hungarcutta jetty at a cost of Rs. 13.18 lakh. The Government had allocated Rs. 46 lakh for providing outboard engines to traditional boats. As many as 960 fishermen would be provided with housing under the Matsayashraya scheme in the district.
Ration cards
Applications for new ration cards had been accepted online and through gram panchayats in the district last year. After processing these applications, new ration cards were being issued. Accordingly, 26,920 applications had been received including 9,515 for below the poverty line (BPL) ration cards, and 17,405 applications for above the poverty line (APL) ration cards. So far, 13,020 new ration cards including 4,678 BPL ration cards and 8,342 APL ration cards had been issued in the district. Three proposals related to drinking water had been submitted to the government under the multi-village scheme. They included a proposal of Rs. 7.35 crore for eight drinking water projects in Udupi taluk, a proposal of Rs. 86.90 crore for 10 drinking water projects in Kundapur taluk, and a proposal of Rs. 40.56 crore for 11 projects in Karkala taluk.
