Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Mangalore University K. Byrappa said here on Thursday that the university will allocate a special grant of Rs. 25 lakh to its ‘prasaranga’ (publication unit) which is in its silver jubilee year for book publishing and silver jubilee activities.
Addressing college teachers after releasing seven revised Kannada text books published by the ‘prasaranga’ for undergraduate students, Mr. Byrappa noted that the ‘prasaranga’ had only published 62 books so far, which were not enough.
The VC said that activities of ‘prasaranga’ reflected the extension activities of the university. In addition to publishing text books, it could publish books on selected lectures, research works, and translated works and some books useful for common persons, he said.
Mr. Byrappa said a silver jubilee committee of ‘prasaranga’ would be constituted shortly and it would organise a series of programmes, including lectures and seminars, from next month.
Kalegowda Nagavara, a writer, who released the books said that the syllabi of Kannada language and optional subjects should reflect not merely the literature but thoughts of thinkers and philosophers.
