Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Ports and Muzrai, said on Monday that Rs. 2 crore had been allocated for the construction of a separate jetty at the Malpe fisheries harbour, which would help tourists reach St. Mary’s Island.

He was speaking at a function held to distribute taxis to 10 unemployed youth belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes at the District Offices Complex here. He handed the keys of taxis to beneficiaries on the occasion.

He launched the website www.udupitourism.com, which had details of all important tourist spots in the district and the State.

Mr. Poojary said Rs. 2 crore had been allotted for tourism development at Marvanthe beach in the district. The Kaup Light House would be developed at a cost of Rs. 55 lakh. A Yatri Nivas would come up near Sri Krishna Math or temple here. “There is potential for development of tourism in the district. We should tap it,” he said.

Lalaji R. Mendon, Kaup MLA; Kiran Kumar, president of Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC); Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju, Corporation Bank Assistant General Manager N. Manjunath Shenoy, and District Tourism Officer Prakash were present.
