In a daylight robbery, two persons entered a house, administered sedative to a woman and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 6,000 in cash at Muloor village under Kaup police station limits on Wednesday.
K. Annamalai, Assistant Superintendent of Police, said two persons wearing skull caps came seeking donation for construction of a mosque to the house of Sophia at around 12 noon.
She opened the door and went to collect money from her purse. By the time she returned, the duo placed a kerchief with a sedative to her nose and she fell unconscious. “But we are not sure what kind of sedative it was,” he said.
The persons decamped with 36g of gold ornaments and Rs. 6,000 from the house. The duo later boarded a private bus to Udupi, but alighted between Kaup and Katapady, the police said.
The pair had collected donations from five houses in the same lane in Muloor. The police are examining the footage from a CCTV camera installed in that lane. The police had also drawn the sketches of the duo based on the information given by the people who had seen them, Mr. Annamalai said.
Farmer electrocutedA 50-year-old farmer was electrocuted after he touched his pumpset that had a faulty fuse, at Manila in Bantwal taluk on Wednesday. Vittal police said Narayana Gowda had gone to his farm at 5 a.m. to let out water when the incident occurred.
Man drownsThe body of a 60-year-old man, who allegedly killed himself by jumping into the Gurupura River, was found near Siddaghatta, Bantwal taluk on Wednesday.
P. Vasudeva Acharya (60), who runs a woodwork arts shop in Moodbidri, killed himself sometime between 10.30 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, said the Bantwal Rural Police.
According to the letter found in his pocket, he was depressed as he suffered severe joint pains and could no longer work.
The suicide note also records the decision to jump into the river at Sankabettu village, said the police.
