Minister for Environment, Ecology, Ports and Inland Water Transport J. Krishna Palemar said here on Sunday that he will give a reward of Rs. 1,000 to those who provide information on the vehicles that dump solid waste and debris on roadsides in the jurisdiction of Mangalore City Corporation.
Speaking at a programme organised by the Mangalore City Corporation at theTown Hall here to create awareness among students on solid waste management, he said that anyone could call up his office in the city corporation building at Lalbagh here on 2457919/94481-35767 and provide the registration number of the vehicle dumping the solid waste or debris on roadsides.
The callers should also provide the time and spot of such dumping. The city corporation had organised the programme on the sidelines of the inauguration of various competitions for students, as part of the awareness campaign.
The programme follows the Government approving a three-package solid waste management proposal of the corporation on July 14. The Minister called upon the people not to throw plastics on roadsides and to minimise the use of plastics.
He said that the city produced 10 tonnes of hazardous waste daily. Commissioner of the corporation K.N. Vijayaprakash, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Chairman of Karnataka Coastal Development Authority B. Nagaraja Shetty spoke.
