The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has revised the fares of autorickshaws in Udupi district with effect from Thursday (January 23).
In a press release issued here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju said the minimum fare of autorickshaws (for the first 1.5 km) had been increased from Rs. 20 to Rs. 25.
The fare for every kilometre thereafter had been increased from Rs. 14 to Rs. 15. All autorickshaw operators had been directed to re-calibrate their autorickshaw metres to the revised fares by February 28, the release added.
Mr. Reju, who had chaired a meeting of the RTA on this issue earlier in the day, said the last revision in autorickshaw fares had been done two years back. “We decided on a hike in the fares of autorickshaw on a par with Bangalore and Mangalore. But the subsequent fare per km distance has been increased from Rs. 14 to Rs. 15, which might be the highest in the State,” he said.
\Arun Kumar Singh, RTO, M.B. Boralingaiah, Superintendent of Police, A.P. Kodancha, U.L. Kamath, and R.L. Dias, consumer activists, participated in the meeting.
