Restrict NH 17 to 45 m: samiti

April 06, 2010 06:34 pm | Updated 06:34 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The Rashtriya Heddari Santrastara Horata Samiti, a newly formed forum, has urged the Union Government to restrict the proposed widening of the stretch between Nanthoor Circle and Talapady on National Highway 17 to 45 metres instead of 60 metres.

Dinakara Ullal, president of the samiti, told presspersons here on Monday that the Government had proposed to restrict the same highway to 45 metres while widening it in Kerala and Goa. He wanted to know why the Government was applying a different yardstick for widening of the highway in Karnataka

Mr. Ullal said, the forum had decided to stage a “rasta roko” protest at Thokkottu, if the Government did not restrict the width of the highway to 45 m.
