Residents of Bendoorwell, traders and autorickshaw drivers on Thursday staged a protest seeking the repair of a battered stretch of the road between Karavali junction and Bendoorwell junction. The former president of the Mangaluru Bar S.P. Chengappa, whose office is located off the road, blamed the Mangaluru City Corporation for not undertaking repair of this busy road stretch.

Despite memorandums by the residents pointing to the bad state of the road, the civic authority has failed to repair it, the protesters said.

Apart from heavy rain, leakage from the water supply line passing beneath the road has worsened the condition of the road. The civic body has not replaced the leaking water pipes, he said.

Traders urged the civic body to complete at the earliest the underground drainage work taken up.
