Several candidates staged a protest after their applications were rejected during the recruitment for posts of assistant lineman at Mangala Stadium here on Wednesday.
The protestors said they had travelled from places as far as Belgaum and Bijapur to attend the recruitment only to be told by Mescom officials that they had only ITI qualification instead of the three-year ITC qualification, which was mandatory.
The protestors sought to know as to why the electricity supply company asked them to travel all the way here for the posts they had not been qualified for.
Mescom officials said the recruitment for a total of 346 posts of assistant lineman is being conducted in Mangalore and Shimoga. Nearly 430 people turned up at the venue. Applications for the posts had been called nearly two years ago, and this was stayed in the High Court over reservations for women.
Superintendent Engineer (Electrical) and president of the Assistant Lineman Endurance Test committee U.B. Sukumar said nearly 60 applications had been rejected as the qualifications did not match the requirements.
“During the online application process, these candidates had applied for the ITC quota – which is about 130 seats in all. They had misinformed their qualifications in the online process, and had to be rejected during document verification,” he said, adding that the candidates had been given call-for letter based on the online application.
The endurance tests involved applicants climbing mock electric poles that had been installed on the tracks of Mangala Stadium.
