The district administration has banned rallies by vehicles or padayatras, processions, protests or public meetings in the entire Udupi district from 6 a.m. on September 5 to 6 a.m. on September 9.

In a notification here on Monday, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate, G. Anuradha, said that she had received a letter from the district police stating that if the planned motorcycle rally by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha was allowed, it would affect the law and order situation in the district.

The district administration of Dakshina Kannada district too had written that the BJP Yuva Morcha motorcycle rally should not be allowed to pass through Udupi district and enter Dakshina Kannada. Hence, in the interests of maintaining peace and order in Udupi district, no rallies by any organisation would be allowed to enter into, pass through or leave the district from 6 a.m. on September 5 to 6 a.m. on September 9.

Padyatras, jathas, processions, protests or public meetings by any organisation have been banned in the district during this period, the notification added.
