A watercolour painting depicting a Rajasthani man in his traditional headgear by Pruthvi Raj of Pumpwell, who is doing his Master of Visual Arts course in Davangere, has bagged the top honours for the southern region (student category) in the Camel Art Foundation’s all-India contest.
Mr. Raj did the painting as a student at the city’s Mahalasa School of Arts, a few months ago. “Watercolour is my favourite medium,” Mr. Raj told The Hindu from Davangere.
TrainingMr. Raj hopes to get trained in a reputed institution like Santiniketan in West Bengal or J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, according to his teacher Syed Asif Ali at Mahalasa. Mr. Ali, who too has bagged the same award under the professional’s category, said his disciple’s work met “standards”.
His drawings with pencil and pen were very good as also his lines and strokes, he said.
Mr. Raj trained in the ‘Upgrade department’ (not painting department) so that he could make a career in illustrations, poster designing and advertisement designing where realistic art has value.
SkilThe field demanded higher skill and speed, Mr. Ali said.
