Eight houses were damaged and three agricultural fields destroyed in heavy rain and strong winds in Udupi district on Saturday.
There were reports of sea erosion at Udyavar-Padukere and Kadekar-Padukere villages in Udupi taluk.
According to official sources, four houses were partially damaged in Udupi taluk. The loss due to damage was and the damage to all these four houses taken together was estimated at Rs. 24,098. A house each belonging to Karti Poojary in Tenkanidiyur village, Sharada Adiga in Kenjoor village, Padmavati in Puttur village and Pramoda Kotian in Kadekar village were damaged in the taluk.
Kundapur taluk
One house was fully damaged and three houses were partially damaged in Kundapur taluk, according to the tahsildar's office there. The overall loss was put at Rs. 84,000.
Karkala taluk
A field each belonging to Ramanna Shetty, Radha Naik and Kalyani Shetty in Karkala taluk were inundated and crops destroyed.
Rainfall
According to the control room in the Deputy Commissioner's office here, Udupi received 108.08 mm of rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 a.m. on Saturday, while Kundapur received 85.08 mm and Karkala 136.02 mm.
Train services affected

Train services in the region continued to be affected on Saturday due to landslips in the Konkan Railway track. A release from the Southern Railways informed that three trains scheduled for August 1, Madgaon-Ernakulam Express (no. 0215) and Lokmaya Tilak-Mangalore Central Matsyagandha Express (2620 and 2619), have been cancelled. The Ernakulam-Ajmer Express (no. 2977) has will not play between Ernakulam and Ratnagiri. The release said that it was undertaking the transhipment of the passengers travelling in six trains on this stretch.
Vehicular traffic was affected after a tree fell on the Shiradi Ghat Road near Sakleshpur. Several buses that were to arrive in the city were delayed by over five hours.
A landslip occurred at Padil on NH-48 at around 7.30 a.m. and disrupted traffic until noon. According to the Deputy Commissioner's office, 10 houses collapsed in the district on Saturday, but nobody was hurt.
The rainfall in Dakshina Kannada in the last 24 hours till 8 a.m. on Saturday were: Bantwal 128.6 mm, Belthangady 103.6 mm, Puttur 78.6 mm, Sullia 69.4 mm, Uppinangady 88.6 mm, Bajpe 123.8 mm and Mangalore-107.6 mm. The water level in the Netravati had come down to to 6.6 m on Saturday.
