After having loomed ominously over the city for the past few days, the clouds announced their presence with incessant rain that lasted almost the entire day on Friday.

In all, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said its Panambur station recorded 48.8 mm of rain between 8.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Friday, while Mangalore International Airport received 30 mm of rain in the same period.

The heaviest rains came in the morning, and the long-spell that lasted much of afternoon, saw streets inundated across the city. Mangaladevi Road in front of Pandeshwar, K.S. Rao Road in front of City Centre Mall, Hoige Bazaar road, among others were covered in a sheet of water, while the steep inclines of the pot-holed Kadri-Nantoor road bore an uncanny resemblance to a cascading waterfall.

There was no let go for motorists as a drizzle persisted through the day.

“The monsoon has revived, and this is common for the month of September. These rains may last till the end of the month,” said an IMD official.

The revival follows the respite during the end of August.
