Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai will lay the foundation stone for development projects estimated at ₹2,266.65 crore under the jurisdiction of Mangaluru City Corporation on Tuesday. It will include 65 projects costing about ₹2,000 crore, under the Smart City mission.

Mayor Kavitha Sanil told reporters here on Monday that four major projects would be taken up it.

They are a bus stand at Pumpwell (₹400 crore), multilevel car parking facility at Hampankatta (₹98 crore), reconstructing central market building at Hampankatta (₹50 crore) and setting up a command-control centre in the corporation building at Lalabgh (₹49 crore). The command-control centre would have CCTV camera surveillance of the city, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor water supply, water leakage, movement of vehicles transporting waste, etc.

Foundation stone for a modern market- cum- commerical complex at Kadri (₹16 crore) and at Kankanady (₹42.50 crore) would also be laid. Some of the other projects for which foundation stone would be laid are replacement of 11.40-km-long sewage-pumping mainline (₹ 93.55 crore), work on underground sewage network, a park, and work on storm water drainage works (₹61.30 crore) under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation, nine road development projects (₹17.35 crore) and 19 other projects costing ₹37.75 crore.

Some of the road projects to be taken up will include widening Mangaluru Junction Railway Station Road, Yekkuru- Pakkaladkka JM Road development, Lady Hill- Sulthan Bathery Road widening, building storm-water drains on the concrete road between Kavoor Junction and Kuloor Junction, widening Malemar road, and building footpaths on Kadri Kambala Road.

Indira Canteens

Four Indira canteens will be inaugurated in the city on Tuesday by Minister of Food and Public Distribution U.T. Khader. They are at Urwa Stores, Nehru Maidan, Kavoor and Surathkal.

A fifth canteen will come up at Pumpwell, according to Ms. Sanil.
