Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police, S. Murugan, on Thursday imposed prohibitory orders on Ullal town police station limits near here following clashes between two groups and torching of 22 shops at Thokkottu junction.
There was tension in Ullal late on Wednesday night as two groups clashed over installing a banner related to a religious event in K. C. Road. Stones and glass bottles were thrown by one groups at at the other resulting in injury to three persons, including an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police.
Additional force was summoned to disperse the agitated crowd around midnight.
Around 2 a.m. fire broke out at some of the roadside shops in Olapete Road near Thokkottu junction. Articles in 22 shops that included few vegetable and petty shops were damaged. Mr. Murugan said attributing it to miscreants.
