Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said on Sunday that private participation in education sector would take education to more needy students.
Inaugurating the extension block of the Dr. G. Shankar Government Women's First Grade College and Post-Graduate Centre, here Mr. Gowda said that though the State Government had allotted Rs. 250 crore for the higher education sector the allocation was still inadequate.
He said that he would sanction the proposal to provide land for the Post-Graduate Centre near the Dr. G. Shankar Government Women's First Grade College and Post-Graduate Centre.
He directed the Deputy Commissioner M.T. Reju to provide all details of land and college records to the Chief Minister's office within a week. He would sanction land for the Post-Graduate Centre in 15 days.
It was essential to provide better facilities for women's education. If more funds were required either for the college or the Post-Graduate Centre, the Government would provide it, Mr. Gowda said.
Higher Education Minister V.S. Acharya said that more first grade colleges were now being opened in the State since the number of students pursuing higher studies has seen sharp rise. An increase in the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) was a positive development, he said.
