Preparations begin for Kannada literary meet

The 16th Mangalore Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan, scheduled for April 30 at the Town Hall here, will feature four literary sessions, according to Sarvotham Anchan, president of the Mangalore Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat.

He was speaking to presspersons here on Monday after district in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar inaugurated the sammelan's reception committee office on the second floor of Mangalore City Corporation building. There will be two sessions on “Education, culture and literature”, and a session each on “Humour in literature” and “New trends in the literature of cinema songs”.

Former State president of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat Sa. Shi. Marulayya will inaugurate the sammelan. Veteran writer Bola Chittaranjanadasa Shetty will preside over it. Mr. Shetty had 12 main literary works in both Kannada and Tulu to his credit. Eight women and seven men, who had contributed greatly to society in various fields of human activity, will be felicitated during the sammelan, Mr. Anchan said.
