K.T. Balakrishna, Superintendent of Police, on Monday ordered a preliminary departmental enquiry against Manipal Police Inspector S.V. Girish, who has been accused by the Udupi Taluk Buntara Sangha of lapses while conducting investigation in the Bhaskar Shetty murder case.
Mr. Balakrishna told The Hindu that Additional Superintendent of Police N. Vishnuvardhana would conduct the preliminary enquiry into the alleged lapses. The report of the enquiry was expected in two or three days. If the allegations were found to be true, then there would be a detailed departmental enquiry, he said.
Bhaskar Shetty, a businessman, went missing from his house here on July 28 and his mother Gulabi Shetty lodged a missing complaint with the Manipal police station on July 29.
The police have so far arrested five persons, including Bhaskar Shetty’s wife and son, in the case.
Offers prayersMeanwhile, Gulabi Shetty, offered prayers at the Dhoomavati and Panjurli Daivasthanas at Kunjur village near Uchila on Monday.
Though the police said that they had found bones, it was not clear whether it was Bhaskar Shetty’s. His last rites could be conducted only if his bones were found, she said.
