Postal staff stage dharna in Udupi

April 07, 2011 03:38 pm | Updated 03:38 pm IST - Udupi:

Members of the Udupi unit of the National Postmen and Fourth Division Workers' Association staged a dharna in front of the head post office here on Wednesday.

The protestors said that officers such as superintendent of posts, assistant superintendent of posts and others should treat postmen politely and solve the work-related problems amicably.

The officers should give clear instructions on dealing with letters, parcels and money orders without proper addresses.

Unnecessary disciplinary action against postmen should not be taken.

There should be equal distribution of work among all postmen in Udupi Head Post Office.

Apartment owners should be asked to maintain letter-boxes compulsorily on the ground floor. All post personnel should be given uniforms, the protestors said.

Unit president Vasudeva Thottam, secretary Janardhan and vice-president N.A. Nejar were present.
