Post offices to remain open today

All post offices under Mangaluru postal division will remain open on Sunday (March 29) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is to enable parents having girl child to open accounts under Sukanya Samrudhi Yojana under the Prime Minister’s ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ initiative. The scheme is applicable to girl children born on or after December 3, 2003. Such parents will have to bring two photographs, copy of the birth certificate of the girl child, Rs. 1,000 initial deposit amount, a release said.

Elected

H. Prabhakar, chief cardiologist of Father Muller Medical College and Hospital has been unanimously elected president of the Dakshina Kannada chapter of Association of Physicians of India for 2015-16. He will assume charge from April 1. Raghav Sharma has been elected vice-president, Sunil Kumar secretary and Prashanth as treasurer.

Mathematics examination

In all, 12,071 students of the final year pre-university appeared for Mathematics examination in 52 centres in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday. Of 12,154 students who had applied for the subject, 83 students were absent. In examination for Geography subject 56 students did not attend and 945 students attended.

Karnataka Bank ATM

The city-headquartered Karnataka Bank will open its 1000th ATM in Chamundi Hills, Mysuru on Monday. It will be near the Chamundeshwari temple.

Traffic station

The revenue department has identified 10 acres for opening a traffic police station at Bantwal, according to a revenue official. He told the Karnataka Development Programme Review Committee meeting here on Saturday that a proposal to hand over the land to police department is being prepared.
