For the first time, New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has received instant coffee in 40 ft high cube (HC) containers for export to Poland, according to a press release issued here.

The containers were loaded at the factory at Kushalnagar in Kodagu and moved to the port through Mysore-Mani State Highway.

Fillip

This is expected to give a fillip to the movement of more containers to New Mangalore Port during the coming coffee season.

With the widening and strengthening of the highway, container movement to the port has become more viable. The consignment was loaded on to M.V. Tiger Mango vessel which sailed out on Monday.

P. Tamilvanan, Chairman, NMPT, said that the marketing efforts made by the port during the past few years at various locations of the hinterland such as Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Hassan, Mysore and Shimoga were yielding good results. NMPT was the highest coffee-exporting port in India and handled 1.44 lakh tonnes (6786 TEUs) in 2011-12. Cargo in containers had also started moving from Shimoga and other regions to NMP.

Possibility

He said that exporters from Mysore and Nanjangud could consider the possibility of moving their containers through NMP.
