Poojary seeks CBI probe

May 05, 2010 01:25 am | Updated 01:25 am IST - MANGALORE:

Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary has demanded that an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be ordered into the alleged sexual misconduct of former Minister for Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Hartalu Halappa.

Addressing presspersons here on Monday, Mr. Poojary said that it was not proper on the part of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to defend Mr. Halappa.

The Chief Minister had given a clean chit to Mr. Halappa even before investigating the case. “The Chief Minister has given his verdict that the former Minister is not guilty. How can he do that,” Mr. Poojary asked.

Mr. Poojary wanted to know how the police could investigate the case when the accused has been given a clean chit by the Chief Minister. Hence, an inquiry by the CBI should be ordered.
