Police raid godown, seize LPG cylinders

The police here on Sunday arrested Harish Shetty, dealer of a “gas agency”, in front of Jeppu Market, on charges of illegally stocking 130 liquefied petroleum gas cylinders.

He was arrested after police and officials from the Department of Food and Civil Supplies jointly raided the godown where he had allegedly stocked the cylinders.

M. Devappa, Food Inspector, and Ravindra K.G., Assistant Commissioner of Police, led the raid.

Mr. Devappa told The Hindu that they seized 102 cylinders filled with LPG and 28 empty ones. The cylinders seized included that of Bharat Petroleum, Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil Corporation, Konkan Gas and ELF Gas. He said the accused had violated Gas Cylinder Rules, 1981; LPG order, 2000 and Explosive Licence.

Mr. Ravindra said that Mr. Shetty, has been arrested.
