Police have been given a free hand to take actions necessary to maintain peace in Ullal and other parts of the State, said Home Minister K.J. George.

Maintaining peace and order is on the top of State government’s agenda, at a time when certain groups are trying to create tension by stoking religious passions, in the run up to Lok Sabha elections.

He was responding to demands for release of innocents arrested following trouble in Ullal at a meeting held at the District Congress office on Wednesday.
