All rape cases in the country should be put on a fast track, said B. Janardhan Poojary, former Union Minister and senior Congress leader, at a press meet here on Tuesday.

Referring to the case of the rape of a woman in Delhi, which is being placed on a fast track and the trial is scheduled for January 3, he said that all other rape cases “in every nook and corner of the country” should be dealt with on a fast track. He also referred to a rape case in Belthangady, which is still unresolved.

On the ongoing protest against “made snana” held in Kukke Subrahmanya temple, he said he was organising an event where he would wash the feet (“paadapuje”) of a woman from a Scheduled Caste at the Gokarnanatheshwara Temple, Kudroli. The message is to convey to the society that all people, across castes, are equal and to tell people that women should be respected, and that women who have lost their husbands have a place in society, he said.

Mr.Poojary urged the BJP leaders to secure the resignation of K.S.Eshwarappa, Deputy Chief Minister, in whose possession gold, silver and cash had been found during a Lokayukta raid. If he is allowed to continue, it means that the Chief Minister does not want to ask him to resign as he fears he may be in a similar situation. Otherwise, the Governor should dismiss him, he said. Other than Mr. Eshwarappa, there are many other leaders in the BJP who are corrupt, he alleged.

He said that Karnataka Janata Party (KJP), the political party formed by former Chief Minister B.S.Yeddyurappa, is not different from the BJP and that two would merge after the elections.
