Dayananda Kukkaje, a photojournalist who was arrested on Wednesday over allegations of rape and intimidation, was released on bail on Thursday.
According to the police, Dayananda was produced before the magistrate, who directed him to be released on bail. Though a case of rape has been filed against him, there is a doubt over the charge as the victim has conceded that intercourse had been consensual, added a police official.
The victim refused to consent to a medical test for rape, and based on this, the judge granted the photojournalist bail, on surety and the condition that he cooperated with the investigation.
The investigation into both the charges will continue.
In her complaint at the women’s police station, the victim had alleged that Dayananda, who works for a news portal here, had lured her with the promise of marriage, and then, when she retracted, “threatened her.”
