The district administration has asked people possessing licensed arms and ammunition to deposit them with the police. The step has been taken in view of the Assembly elections scheduled for May 5.
In a press release issued here on Wednesday, M.T. Reju, Deputy Commissioner, permit holders had been asked to deposit their arms and ammunition to the nearest police station in their areas or with the licensed arms and ammunition dealers until May 11. The ban on use of arms and ammunition, however, did not apply to those on government duty or the security personnel in banks/security organizations. People should inform the nearest police station if they found anyone violating this order, the release added.
