A team of councillors of the Mangalore City Corporation and government officials on Monday persuaded property-owners on either side of the Alake-Kudroli Road to part with portions of their property for widening the road.

The team included Mayor Rajani K. Dugganna, MLA N. Yogish Bhat, Deputy Mayor Rajendra, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj and Chief Whip in the corporation council Ranganath C. Kini.

No resistance

The team approached the property-owners on both the sides of the road. There was no resistance from any owner, according to team members.

‘People agreed'

Later, the Chief Whip told The Hindu that the people had agreed to cooperate with the corporation for widening the road. Some minor issues had been sorted out.

The owners requested the corporation to complete the preliminary works such as demolition and completion of building works quickly, as otherwise their business would suffer. He said the owners would be given transferable development rights (TDR) for the properties surrendered.

Earlier, the corporation had taken into possession 30 cents of land from 45 owners along Car Street for widening the stretch.

All those property owners would soon be given transferable development rights certificates at a function to be conducted here shortly, Mr. Kini said.
