Nobody is talking about the recent abduction, forced sex and blackmail of a medical student and her doctor friend at Deralakatte, said Sulochana G. K. Bhat, vice-president, State Mahila Morcha of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Tuesday.

She was speaking at a protest organised by the BJP Mahila Morcha condemning the Deralakatte incident, near the office of the Deputy Commissioner.

Ms. Bhat alleged that the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, under whose constituency the abduction and blackmail of the two took place, was keeping quiet about the incident. This was even bigger than the homestay attack incident and there was ‘a big organised gang’ behind it, she alleged.

Pulasya Rai, State Mahila Morcha secretary, said the crime has created fear among women and everyone’s support is needed to counter such incidents. People in the district will speak about areca nut but not women’s issues, she said.
