A large number of people participated in the Hindu Samajotsava at MGM College Grounds in Udupi on Monday.

Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt said on Monday that the process of reconversion or “ghar vapsi” will not stop until conversions were stopped.

He was speaking at the Virat Hindu Samajotsava held at the MGM College grounds held by the district units of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of the Parishad. A large number of people participated in the event.

The Pejawar seer alleged that conversions were taking place in the country and people following Hinduism were being converted to other religions through inducements. He was not against other communities, but he was not in favour of conversions. Urging other communities to stop conversions, he said, “If the other communities stopped conversion, we will stop reconversion.”

The government should enact a law against conversion in the country. Politicians were only speaking about reconversion but were conveniently ignoring conversion.

“Politicians should provide all facilities for the welfare of minority communities. But they should make the same facilities available for the majority community also,” he said.

No community should support terrorism as it created lot of anger and tension. The Samajotsava had not been organised for any political purpose. “The purpose of the Samajotsava is to organise Hindu religion and protect Hindu culture and heritage. So other communities need not fear this event,” he said.

The seer said that Hindus should shun the practice of untouchability. The State government should enact a law to protect cows as had been done in Maharashtra, the seer said.

Kalahastendra Saraswati Swami of Katapadi Anegundi Mutt, made the gathering take four vows. They were: there should be no conversion, but those wanting to return to Hinduism should be allowed to do so; ‘Love Jihad’ should not be allowed; infiltrators from Bangladesh should not be allowed; Hindus should have more children.

In his keynote address, Prashanth Hartalkar, in-charge of international division of VHP, said the State government was wrong in not allowing VHP leader Praveen Togadia from participating in the Samajotsava here.

The VHP wanted to protect all Hindus throughout the world. The condition of Hindus was pathetic in Pakistan and Bangladesh, he said.

Earlier, the VHP held a procession from Jodu Katte to the MGM College grounds.
