Patient kills helper for not bringing ganja

A 44-year-old man caring for a 37-year-old patient admitted in Government Wenlock Hospital died following assault by the latter in the hospital Tuesday night.

Police said Prashant was being cared for by Kantappa of Panambur. On Tuesday night Prashant hit Kantappa on the abdomen for not bringing him ganja, said a doctor. Kantappa was shifted to emergency ward, where he died in the early hours of Wednesday.

College girl ends life

A girl committed suicide at her house at Korangarapady in Udupi on Wednesday. According to the Udupi Town Police, Akshita (19), a second year B.Com student of KVS College, Udyavara, was suffering from headache for the last two years. This is suspected to have driven her to commit suicide by hanging herself. A case of unnatural death had been registered at the Udupi police station.

Shop owner assaulted

A shop owner was assaulted by a group of people near Kulur Junction Wednesday night. The police said Ramachandra, who runs a shop in Kulur, was assaulted allegedly by Rakesh, a history-sheeter and his associates at Hotel Ratna near Kulur junction. The attack was said to be result of animosity between Rakesh and Ramachandra. The police said Ramachandra was admitted in a private hospital with deep cut wounds on his chest. The police secured CCTV footage of the assault.

Hit-and-run

A disabled woman died on the spot after an unknown vehicle rammed into her in Puttur town on Tuesday night. Around 8.30 p.m., Padmavati (34), who runs a small shop outside Puttur Bus Depot, was walking home when the car hit her. The driver of the car fled the scene, and there’s no eye-witness, said Puttur police.

Raid on abattoir

One person was arrested and Rs. 1.12 lakh worth of beef seized from a house that allegedly served as an illegal slaughter house in B. Muda village, Bantwal taluk on Wednesday.

Bantwal police raided Ismael’s house based on a tip-off. Rashid was arrested, while three others are absconding.

Eight quintals of beef were seized.

Uppinangady case

The Principal District and Sessions Court on Wednesday granted bail to Ranjit, an ABVP activist, who was arrested for allegedly harassing a girl in a government college Uppinangady on July 25.
