‘Passport Mela' for Haj pilgrims soon

The Muslim Welfare Association, in collaboration with the Karnataka State Haj Committee, will organise a “Passport Mela” at the association's office at Baliga Arcade near Gitanjali theatre here on January 16 and 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Association president Usman Ali told presspersons on Friday that it was found that the agents created problems for Haj pilgrims who applied for passports. Those did not have passports could approach the office of the association.

The applicants should have any two of the following documents: voter identity card, ration card, one-year details of bank account, LPG connection, water connection, telephone connection, municipal property document, father's or husband's passport, and income-tax returns filed for three years, he said.

For proof of date of birth, the applicants should have any one of the following documents: school certificate, birth certificate if born after January 26, 1989, affidavit for those aged above 50, affidavit attested by a magistrate if aged below 50, and pension record from the department concerned for retired government employees, he said.
