March 27, 2010 01:52 pm | Updated November 18, 2016 08:59 pm IST - MANGALORE:

The one-man committee appointed by Mangalore University to inquire into the alleged manipulation of marks of some LLB students who appeared for the examinations in October-November 2008 has submitted its report to the university, according to Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankara Murthy.

“The report will be tabled before the Syndicate in its next meeting for discussion. The next course of action will depend on the decision of the Syndicate,” Prof. Murthy told The Hindu .

To a question, he said that the varsity would not hush up the case as it was a serious issue.

The Vice-Chancellor said that he would also obtain legal opinion issue before initiating action.

Meanwhile, sources in the university said that the university had also found manipulation of marks of some students who had appeared for the Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) examinations in November 2008.

After the alleged manipulation of marks in the LLB examinations came to light in April 2009, the university authorities randomly checked the BBM results of 10 colleges and detected 80 cases of manipulation, sources said.

They said that manipulations were found at the time of transferring the marks from the A form to the university ledger.

The A form is the one on which the evaluator enters the marks and the roll numbers. The university sends this form to tabulators.

They said that a Karnataka Administrative Services (KAS) officer was heading the examination section as the Registrar (Evaluation) when the marks of both LLB and BBM examinations were tabulated. After the manipulation of LLB marks came to light, the Government transferred the official.

Referring to the manipulation of marks of LLB students, the varsity sources said that there were some cases in which students who had not even appeared for the examination had been given pass marks.
