Panel seeks facilities for Bhovi community

August 14, 2011 02:48 pm | Updated 02:48 pm IST - Udupi:

President of the All-Karnataka Bhovi Action Committee Sheshanna Kumar said on Saturday that the State Government should provide all facilities for the welfare of the Bhovi (Vaddara) community, a Scheduled Caste, in the State.

Mr. Kumar told presspersons here that it had become difficult for students from the community to get caste certificates to take up higher studies. Hence, the Government should take steps to provide these certificates without any hassle. Since most of the Bhovis were engaged in stone quarrying, stone breaking, stone carving and construction work, they should be provided insurance coverage and pension. A Welfare Fund should be established to help members of this community.. The decennial celebrations and an awareness conference of the Bhovi Welfare and Development Association would be held at Sri Narayanaguru Sabha Bhavan in Udupi on August 14, Mr. Kumar said.
