The State-Level Scheme Sanctioning Committee approved preliminary/ detailed survey for taking up 20 multi-village water supply schemes at a cost of Rs. 325.85 crore in Dakshina Kannada, said president of the zilla panchayat K.T. Shailaja Bhat. The 20 schemes were spread in five taluks.
The schemes would alleviate drinking water problem in villages, she said in a press release. Of these schemes, three were in Mangalore taluk, eight in Bantwal, six in Sullia, one in Puttur and two in Belthangady, Ms. Bhat said.
Villages covered
Executive Engineer of the panchayat S.L. Sathyanarayana told The Hindu that the three schemes in Mangalore taluk would cost Rs. 86 crore. Of the three, one scheme would cover Kuppepadavu and eight more villages, another would cover Ulaibettu and three more villages, and the third one would cover Ullal and 123 habitations.
The eight schemes approved in Bantwal taluk would cover villages under the jurisdiction of Sajeepamunnur, Karopady, Narikombu, Mani, Sangabettu, Sarapady, Kurnad and Alike gram panchayats, he said. The schemes would cost Rs. 173.85 crore.
The six schemes in Sullia would be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 19 crore. They would cover Balpa and 11 habitations; Guthigar and 12 habitations; Sampaje and 58 habitations; Bellare and nine habitations; Ajjavara and other 24 villages; and Jalsoor and 19 other villages.
Mr. Sathyanarayana said that a scheme in Puttur taluk would supply water to Uppinangady and 11 other villages, and it would cost Rs. 23 crore.
The two schemes proposed at Belthangady taluk would cost Rs. 24 crore. They would supply water to Neriya and four more villages and Laila and five other villages.
Survey mandate
The Executive Engineer said the Netravathi, the Phalguni, the Kumaradhara, and the Payaswini were the main sources of water. Water would be lifted either from the nearest vented dams or from digging jack wells on the river bed. Preliminary/ detailed surveys would make it clear.
