People of Padur village on Monday staged a protest against the poor condition of roads, damage to property caused by blasting at the project site and other problems being caused by the Padur Cavern Project. However, the residents said they were not against the project.

“These vehicles move at a high speed. Parents, who used to travel just half a kilometre to take their children to school, have to now travel nearly two to three kilometres. We cannot allow any student to go outside the school premises. The company should stop the movement of vehicles at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the school opens and closes,” Ms. Kundar said.

Chief Manager of the project P. Veerabhadra Rao, who arrived at the spot, said that the blasting would be restricted. The sound of blasts would be reduced as the work would soon be moved inside the cavern. All other work at the project site would be stopped and the damaged road would be repaired and widened, he said.
