Open invitation to students to meet Kalam

The venue has been shifted to T.M.A. Pai International Convention Centre

March 31, 2014 01:57 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 12:42 pm IST - Mangalore:

The visit of the former President and popular speaker A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on April 1 promises to be a “once in a lifetime” interaction as the district administration prepares to accommodate at least 1,600 undergraduate students.

The venue has been shifted to T.M.A. Pai International Convention Centre after Mr. Kalam supposedly believed the capacity of the Nethravati Auditorium at Zilla Panchayat, which can seat up to 300 people, was insufficient, said Thulasi Maddineni, Chief Executive Officer of the ZP, to reporters here on Sunday.

“This is an open invitation to all students. The cap of two students per college has been removed, and anyone with a college identity card can come,” she said. The programme will start at 4.30 p.m., but as all attendees will be frisked, police have asked students to come at least 30 minutes in advance.

“We have contacted medical, dental, paramedical, engineering and degree colleges here. We will give an opportunity to the students to ask questions about the electoral process, role of the youth among others,” said Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim. He said questions pertaining to politics or political parties would not be entertained.
