The police on Wednesday arrested one person in connection with the suicide of the athlete Prathvi Amparu. She committed suicide at Brahmavar in Udupi district on September 27.

Sources in the police department told The Hindu that they had arrested one person in connection with the suicide, based on an entry made by Prathvi in her personal diary.

In addition, the police would also question the hostel warden, college head, sports coach, and Prathvi's hostel roommate. Twenty other girls staying in the hostel will be questioned too, they said. The questioning of all these persons was part of the investigation, the police said.

Meanwhile, students of the SMS Pre-University and SMS First Grade College submitted a memorandum to the Circle Police Inspector G. Krishnamurthy, demanding an impartial probe into the death of Prathvi Amparu, at Brahmavar on Wednesday.

Mr. Krishnamurthy, who received the memorandum, assured the students that the police would find the reasons behind the suicide within a week.
