Nun kidnapped, robbed

A 22-year-old physiotherapy student was kidnapped and robbed of her purse and mobile on Tuesday evening.

According to Mangaluru Rural Police, Jessy Abraham, alighted a bus and as she was about to enter the gate of the Father Muller Medical College, where she was studying, Ms. Abraham was pulled into an autorickshaw.

She managed to jump out of the autorickshaw near the Kadri Shivabagh Junction. She had been robbed of her ring, purse and mobile phone.

Rudolph Ravi D’Sa, the Administrator of the College, said that the student, who is a nun, was in the first year of Master of Physiotherapy course. She had been posted for the last few weeks at the Father Muller Hospital in Thumbay. “She is yet to recover from the shock”, Mr. D'Sa said expressing his surprise that a person robbed her when she was in her religious clothes.

“We are waiting for the police to known the motive of the perpetrator”, Mr. D'Sa said.

Melwyn Pinto, the Public Relations Officer of Mangalore Diocese, condemned the attack on the nun.
