The amphitheatre in School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, was almost full on Tuesday. It was the venue for a street play competition on the theme, “Save water, save life”. College students presented plays highlighting the issue of saving water.
The play was held to mark National Social Service (NSS) Day.
Though not limited to members of the NSS, a majority of them was those who had opted for NSS, said Sophia Fernandes, Principal, Roshni Nilaya.
She said the event had been organised in memory of the late P.N. Maiya, a faculty member and an NSS officer. Students of 15 colleges from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kodagur, all of them affiliated to Mangalore University, participated in the event.
Anusha, who was watching the play, said the theme was suitable for a street play. Abhishek, a participant in the street play from a group belonging to Nitte Shankara Adyanthaya Memorial First Grade College, was analysing the performance with other group members after presenting the play. He said his group had rehearsed the play for a week before presenting it at the competition.
