‘Notice was issued to Alva’s’

November 15, 2014 12:51 pm | Updated 12:51 pm IST - Mangaluru

Having received complaints from activists about the Koraga performances in Alva’s Nudisiri-2014, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim said the organisers had been advised before the start of festivities not to depict tribals and persons from backward castes in bad light.

Talking to The Hindu from Bangalore, Mr. Ibrahim said the notice had gone after representatives from the Nellikai and Koraga communities approached the district administration over concerns of performances in the literary and cultural festival.

“Though legally there is no government order on this matter, we had sent a notice to ensure there is respect while depicting marginalised communities…We will go through the complaints, seek explanation and issue an order so that this doesn’t repeat again,” he said.
