The New Mangalore Port is seeing a record traffic of reefer cargo in containers with the onset of the fishing season in the coastal belt, said a press release.
To tide over the excess movement of reefer containers, the port nominated a relief vessel last week for faster evacuation. In September alone, 442 TEUs of reefer containers with fish have been exported so far. The port expects two more container vessels to call this week for export of another 216 TEUs of containers.
The port will export a total reefer cargo of 1257 TEUs in the first half of the current fiscal year. The reefer containers carry fish varieties to China, Europe, and Bangkok. It expects large volumes of reefer cargo in the coming months of the current financial year.
Export of cotton processed garments and linen produced at the Hassan SEZ by Himatsingka Seida Ltd. to USA has stabilised with the regular movement of containers. The company is likely to send 15 to 20 TEUs every month.
