NMPT gets Port Health Office

August 09, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:49 am IST - MANGALURU:

As a part of the ‘ease of doing business’ initiative of the Union government, the New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) opened a full-fledged Port Health Office (PHO) on Monday.

A release from NMPT here said that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned the office inside the Port pursuant to the request by the Trust. With the establishment of this office, the port will be in a position to get clearance for all foreign-going vessels smoothly. This would also help the embarkation or disembarkation of cruise tourists at the port thereby encouraging cruise tourism in Mangaluru.

The Port Health Officer and supporting staff have been provided by the PHO, Cochin, which was established to ensure the prevention of entry of Quarantinable diseases into the country under Indian Port Health Rules 1955.
