Seer of Nidumamidi Math, Bangalore Veerabhadra Channamalla said here on Sunday that the State government should constitute a Chief Minister’s welfare fund specifically for spending for the welfare of disabled, cancer and AIDS patients and widows using money contributed by donors.
Addressing presspersons he said that this fund should prompt donors to desist from contributing to temples, maths and ashrams unnecessarily. Donors’ fund accumulated in temples, maths and ashrams only resulted in helping increasing “private wealth” of authorities managing them.
He said that the contributions from donors to the Chief Minister’s fund should be exempted from the Income Tax. This should be an arrangement to provide a platform for donors to divert their contribution for the welfare of common people and deserved instead of only a few.
To a question on the seer of Pejawar Math Vishwesha Tirtha taking over as the Udupi ‘paryaya’ in 2006, the Channamalla swamiji said, he was expecting that communal violence would stop in the coastal districts during his ‘paryaya’. He was expecting complete stop to ‘made snana’ and ‘ede snana’ and expected that the Udupi seer upheld Indian values.
