Sharanappa S.D., who took charge as the Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police on Wednesday, said he will work for the peaceful conduct of elections and subdue any possible communal disharmony in the run-up to them .
Addressing reporters here after taking charge, Mr. Sharanappa said a plan for bandobast and other security measures will have to be drawn immediately as the model code of conduct for Lok Sabha elections had been enforced from Wednesday.

On the issues of concern in the district and the course of action, Mr. Sharanappa said: “Naxalism and communal disharmony will be issues to watch out for . We will look to enhance community policing and community participation. There will be a focus on basic policing, professionalism and increased use of technology in day-to-day policing.”
A native of Aland taluk in Gulbarga district, Mr. Sharanappa completed his BSc (Agriculture) in Raichur, and then obtained a Masters degree from Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore, before completing his Ph.D. in genetics and plant breeding from Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. He then shifted to civil services, and belongs to the IPS batch of 2009.
Posts he held prior to this include Assistant Superintendent of Police in Sagar, and in-charge SP of Gadag, where the police service received an ISO certification for ‘people-friendly’ policing.
