Naveen Soorinje, a reporter with the Kasturi Newz 24 who was arrested following the assault on party-goers celebrating a birthday at a boarding home in Padil on the outskirts of the city in July, was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday afternoon after showing symptoms of chickenpox.

Mr. Soorinje, who has spent 49 days behind the bars since his arrest on November 7, was struck with high fever and rashes on Monday night.

On Tuesday afternoon, he was taken to the District Wenlock Hospital. While the results of the blood tests would be announced on Wednesday, he has been kept under observation and given treatment at the block for jail inmates at the hospital.

The Karnataka High Court is scheduled to deliver the verdict on Mr. Soorinje’s bail petition on Wednesday. After his bail application was rejected by the Judicial Magistrate First Class court and the Sessions Court, the journalist had moved the High Court to quash the criminal proceedings against him.
